It’s inexcusable to trade your comfort at the expense of frugality. Cheap shoes are often uncomfortable, leading to many problems, including foot injuries, arch pain, slips, falls, etc. The concept of buying cheap shoes is a false economy that doesn’t end well. This advice might save you money at first but will surely rid you of your safety. Another reason you should ignore this useless frugal advice is that cheap shoes are often made with low-quality materials that have short-term durability leading to buying a new one often, which will cost you more in the long run.

Skip Breakfast

Skipping breakfast is up there with the most bizarre advice anyone can give. This can be likened to putting yourself up for a severe health risk. Various editorials have advised that skipping breakfast is one of the ways to be frugal with your finances. Little do they factor in the great consequence that comes with this useless advice, such as the heightened risk of chronic diseases, obesity, and impaired cognitive functions leading to fatigue, lack of concentration, and slow decision-making. On the financial side, skipping breakfast places you on a calorie deficit, leading to spending more money to cover the deficit by overeating later in the day.

Don’t Dispose of Anything

You tend to create unnecessary clutter and waste space in your home when you hold on to every item you are not using. This is useless frugal advice that has more pain than gains. For instance, holding on to your old piece of worn-out furniture can harbor mold, dust, and various allergens that can trigger asthma and other health concerns. The idea of not disposing of anything is frugality advice that makes mockery of saving money itself because keeping unused things will take up space in your home, which means you have to rent a larger home or get additional storage space to keep those items you should instead dispose of.

Leasing a Car

The basis of frugality is to save money; it is a brainer to lease a car rather than buy one for yourself. This is another useless piece of advice with a severe downside, such as paying for depreciation. That is, your monthly payments cover the car’s loss of value. Another thing is that most leases out there come with mileage restrictions and mandates that the vehicle must be returned in its original condition, meaning that you have to pay for every extra mileage you go and the car maintenance, which can accumulate in no time.

Renting Furniture

From an economic perspective, renting furniture costs more money in the long run than buying it outright. The only fair justification for renting furniture is when you are in a short-term living situation. According to the United State Consumer Finance Protection Bureau, renting a couch for one year costs an average of $1200. This is too high to pay for something you don’t own. The financial drawback of this advice outweigh its worth if we look at it from what frugality entails, the fact that you have to make regular payments even if you don’t use the furniture. You are responsible for the replacement and repair of the furniture should there be any form of damage substantiate furniture renting as s useless frugal advice people should ignore at all costs.

Besides the fact that cheap mattress contributes to sleeping disorder, backache, and pains, it’s also an abysmal financial decision in the long term. Quality mattresses last you for more than 10-15 years, apart from improving your sleep quality. Cheap mattress is made from synthetic fiber materials that are prone to mold and mildew development which cause their short lifespan that will cost you more money in the long run, which already defeats your idea of frugality.

Not spending money on your hobbies gives the vibe of mental and physical health deprivation. Studies have shown that hobbies can simplify your thought process, reduce stress, anxiety, depression, and make you happy. If you love crafting, hiking, reading, and cycling, why deprive yourself of such activities because you are saving money? You don’t need to break your wallet to get most equipment if you are being creative with your purchasing habits.

Do Your Home Repair Yourself

Going the do-it-yourself way for your home repair instead of hiring a professional contractor has all shades of disaster in the making. The fact that there are great user-friendly home improvement products and the availability of DIY instructions on the internet doesn’t negate that a botched attempt to do your home repair project can lead to serious safety issues and aggravation that will cost you even more money. Even if all go as planned, the cost of renting or purchasing equipment usually exceeds the amount saved on labor cost.

Always Buy in Bulk

Most people feel they are paying the least price if they purchase items in bulk quantity. This doesn’t work in most cases if your utility for the extra good can not be ascertained. Another thing they failed to consider is the need for larger storage space and electrical devices such as freezers that will increase your electricity bill. Bulk shopping adverts in stores have plunged people into purchasing products with severe financial implications on their budgets. Buying a $100 product versus an $8 one might force you to put other groceries on your credit card. Also, the fact that you may or may not sort the bills 12 months later puts you in a financial mess.

Skipping Car Maintenance

Skipping car maintenance can be such a tempting way to save money, but it’s one of the useless frugal advice you should ignore at all costs. The damage this singular act does to your car and finance goes beyond the short-term joy of saying money. For instance, car oil becomes contaminated and dark when it has passed some usage threshold, leading to severe damaging effects on your car’s overall health and value. Regular car maintenance helps identify and fix potential problems that can cause serious breakdowns, putting you at risk.
