Sharon Stone
Best known for her roles in Casino and Basic Instinct, Sharon Stone and her ex-husband Phil Bronstein had a custody battle over their adopted son Roan. The judge ruled in 2008 that Bronstein would have primary physical custody of their son and Sharon would have visitation rights. Even though she appealed the decision, she lost the case. Sharon has gone on to adopt two more children and is involved in various advocacy efforts for children’s rights.
Brooke Mueller
Brooke Mueller and her ex-husband Charlie Sheen had a publicised custody battle of their twin sons Max and Bob. Charlie was offered temporary custody of the boys due to Mueller struggling with substance abuse issues and being placed in rehab multiple times. It was in 2013 that Mueller regained custody and Sheen was given visitation rights, albeit limited. Mueller lost custody again in 2014 after being placed on involuntary psychiatric hold. Denise Richards, Sheen’s second ex-wife was given temporary custody of the boys, but they were later removed due to Denise claiming they were “violent and sadistic”. They were then given to Mueller’s parents.
Lisa Bonet
Even though Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet’s marriage was short lived, they did have one daughter called Zoe. Zoe was often in the spotlight along with the relationship of Lenny and Lisa. The two did work hard to co-parent their daughter, and even after the divorce, they shared custody of Zoe. It was when she was 11 that Zoe decided she wanted to live with her father full-time. Lisa was supportive of Zoe’s decision, even though she found it difficult. Lenny was granted primary custody of Zoe and Lisa had visitation rights during the summer months.
Hayden Panettiere
Hayden has recently made a comeback to Hollywood, but is best known for her role on Heroes. During a Facebook Watch’s Red Table Talk, Hayden opened up about her personal life and how she lost custody of her daughter Kaya. She said, “It was the worst, signing those papers, like the most heartbreaking thing I’ve ever, ever had to do in my life.” The custody of Kaya has gone to Wladimir Klitschko. The reason for the custody battle was Hayden’s struggle with postpartum depression and her battle with addiction.
Britney Spears
Probably the most famous custody battle loss on this page, Britney Spears. She had a highly publicized custody battle with her ex-husband Kevin Federline. They had two sons together and in 2007, Britney lost custody of her children due to her mental health and substance abuse issues. Kevin was given sole custody, but Britney did regain some custody and has since been working on rebuilding the relationship between herself and her sons.
Lisa Marie Presley
We’re well aware that the daughter of Elvis Presley was into drugs and the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle just like her father. She went on to lose custody of her child when she checked herself into rehab. It was during this time that she publicly accused her ex-husband of having child pornography.
Courtney Love
In 2009, Love attracted media attention when she lost custody of her 17-year-old daughter for the second time. The reasons behind this decision were initially unclear. However, according to the Daily Mail, Frances Bean, Love’s daughter, moved in with her paternal grandmother and aunt, who were appointed as her temporary guardians.

Jennifer is a well known singer and actress, but she has recently lost custody of her son. The custody was given to her ex-fiance David Otunga, after stating he would be a more present parent for their 8 year-old son. The decision was made due to Jennifer’s busy schedule.
