Hershey’s is a brand that is known across the world and Americans are proud to have one of the best brands in the world on their doorstep. Despite the fact Americans love Hershey’s, others are disgusted by the vomit-like taste that comes from the butyric acid used in their chocolate. Other people comment on how powdery and ‘dusty’ the chocolate tastes and would put it last on their list of go-to chocolate bars.

Grits

Grits are a staple of Southern US restaurants and locals cannot get enough of them but people outside of the US cannot believe people eat the stuff. This sloppy dried cornmeal is cheap and cheerful to many but vomit-inducing for foreigners. If you can get past the first spoonful you may be surprised at how good it tastes.

Pop Tarts

Pop Tarts look fun and taste fun, according to many Americans. While people from around the world agree with the fun bit they cannot get to grips with the sheer amount of sugar that is contained in one pop tart. Just like American citizens are consumed with the ease and enjoyment of Pop-Tarts, parents around the globe cave into the demands of their children to try this iconic US breakfast snack.

Corn Dogs

Some Americans prefer corn dogs over hot dogs as the fair food favorite is the staple of fast food life. The original hot dog, which is loved across the world, is covered in cornmeal batter and fried to within an inch of its life which is a massive turn-off for many. Any food on a stick does have some appeal but the greasy corn dog just doesn’t do it for a worldwide audience. When it comes to junk food, so many people think this is the dirtiest and wouldn’t be seen dead eating it.

Beef Jerky

Beef jerky doesn’t look like it should taste good but many, many Americans do enjoy this protein-filled snack. For those who are not as patriotic towards beef jerky, this meaty snack taste of cardboard and is pointless. We have to say that homemade jerky does taste very good but the store-bought cheap snacks are a big no-go.

If you are wondering how breakfast cereal can be so offensive you only need to read the feedback from foreigners who cannot stand the sick sweet taste of American cereal. Lucky charms look cute but one spoon would take a tooth out according to some. The fact that some American cereal will have your pee looking like a rainbow is also rather worrying to non-Americans.

We say American cheese but we have to question if it uses cheese. Technically it isn’t allowed to be called cheese even in the US but it is still used heavily everywhere from fast food chains to children’s lunch boxes. People outside of the US, however, do not enjoy the plastic taste and would not let it anywhere near their burgers.

Twizzlers

The Twizzler is iconic in the American candy world and many would agree that they look very appealing. With the nostalgia of raspberry spirals coming to mind, many people are excited for their first taste of a Twizzler but soon find they are disappointed by the bland flavors that hit their lips. Twizzlers are hard and taste plastic according to people outside of the US. To be fair, some people within the US don’t like them either but seem to be very loyal to one of the nation’s favorites.

Mac and Cheese

Even though Italians would cringe at the thought of eating mac and cheese, it is a staple midweek dinner that is enjoyed by families across the world. The American Kraft Mac and cheese is another matter as people around the world are sick at the thought of having to eat the illumines boxed ‘treat’. Yes, it is convenient and easy to make but it does not taste good at all according to foreigners. Nevertheless, this is an American staple that is not going to go away anytime soon.
