In a recent court ruling, TikTok star Bacari-Bronze O’Garro, known online as “Mizzy,” has been banned from using all forms of social media except for private messaging. This comes after O’Garro was found guilty of breaching a criminal behavior order (CBO) by posting videos of himself engaging in offensive and intrusive “pranks” on social media.
He Posted Just Hours of Breaching The Order
The CBO, imposed in May 2023, prohibited O’Garro from sharing videos of others without their consent and engaging in behavior that could be considered harassment or nuisance. However, O’Garro was filmed and posted videos of himself breaking the CBO just hours after it was issued.
O’Garro Insisted He Had Consent
These videos included O’Garro grabbing a schoolboy by his uniform, fighting with a man with dwarfism, and confronting a police officer. O’Garro has maintained that these videos were staged with the individuals’ consent, but the court has rejected this claim.
Insensitive Pranks
O’Garro’s “pranks” have often been criticized for being offensive and insensitive. For example, in one video, he pretended to be a drug dealer and approached people on the street, asking them if they wanted to buy drugs. In another video, he pretended to be a police officer and pulled people over for minor infractions.
Private Messaging is Allowed
As a result of breaching the CBO, O’Garro has been banned from using social media, including platforms such as Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, and YouTube. He is only allowed to use social media for private messaging, and any breach of this restriction could result in further legal action.
A Complete Disregard for the Law
Judge Matthew Bone, who presided over O’Garro’s trial, slammed the TikTok star for his lack of credibility and warned him that he could face jail time for his offenses. “Mr. O’Garro, you have shown a complete disregard for the law and the court’s orders,” Judge Bone said. “Your behavior has been reckless and irresponsible, and you have caused distress and upset to others. You have also wasted the time of the court and the police. I am warning you that you could face jail time if you breach this order again.”
He Faces a $6,000 Fine
In addition to the social media ban, O’Garro will also be sentenced for breaching the CBO on November 21, 2023. He could face a fine of up to $6,000 or up to two years in prison. The case of Mizzy has sparked a debate about the responsibility of social media influencers and the potential consequences of their actions. O’Garro’s videos have been widely condemned as offensive and irresponsible, and his actions have raised concerns about the impact of social media on young people.
Privacy is Paramount
This case also highlights the importance of respecting the privacy and boundaries of others. O’Garro’s videos were filmed without the consent of the individuals involved, and they caused them distress and upset. It is important to remember that just because someone is on social media does not mean they are open to being filmed or sharing their personal lives with the world.
Jail Time is a Possibility
O’Garro’s actions have had severe consequences, and he now faces the possibility of jail time. This should serve as a warning to others considering engaging in similar behavior. Social media is a powerful tool that should not be used to harass, intimidate, or exploit others.
Some People Did Not Believe He Will Be in Custody
Skeptics online did not believe that O’Garro would be dealt with effectively by the judicial system, with one person saying, “And he’ll just be slapped on the wrist and released, again. And he’ll go back to making stupid prank videos, again.” Others disagreed with this online commentator when they wrote, “Contempt of court is Contempt, therefore it has its own tariff based on the severity from a fine up to a prison sentence, like most offenses. Usually courts have a tariff range based upon factors such as culpability and severity of an offense.”
Just Another Statistic
There was little support for O’Garro online, with one person saying, “He thinks he’s having his fifteen minutes of fame. He thinks he’s going to be able to pivot into the media. He doesn’t know he’s going to be another statistic within a year. Another person said, “it says he got a 2-year court order to ban him from posting to social media, so as long as people report him he’ll keep getting fined and eventually end up in prison and potentially have his channels shut down by it all.”
Fans Have Defended Him
O’Garro’s defenders argue that his pranks are harmless and that he is simply trying to entertain his followers. However, his critics argue that his pranks are often offensive and insensitive and can cause distress and upset to the people he targets.
