You might think that there are no rules for celebrities that meet the Royal family. However, you’d be wrong. Even celebrities have to follow certain rules every single time they meet the Royals.
Certain Rooms Are Off-limits
This might be an obvious rule for anyone visiting the palace. It also applies to celebrities. Warning off during a visit to the palace is a big no. It might be tempting, but it would definitely give cause for a scolding.

In order for appearances and schedules to be organised and kept to, every royal household has their own group of personal aides. It’s not an easy job, but protocols must always be followed by everyone.
Don’t Be Late
When it comes to public appearances, things happen, and sometimes, celebrities can be late. However, if the royal family are in attendance, then being late isn’t an option. The only people who can be the last to arrive are the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

There are rules and protocols in order mainly for safety purposes. The royal family’s security is a huge job, and it’s best for any celebrities meeting the Royal family to keep all jokes to themselves if security is near.
Eye Contact is a Must
Celebrities must keep eye contact with any royals they meet out of respect. It’s the same if celebrities are wearing sunglasses, take them off so the royals can see your eyes.
Never Touch a Royal
It doesn’t matter if the conversation feels like you’ve been best friends for years, you cannot touch a royal without permission, regardless of whether you’re a celebrity or not.
Use Proper Table Manners
Even celebrities can have personal table manners that might be seen as disrespectful to the royal family. Celebrities must ensure they know proper table etiquette such as which fork should be used for which course, and whether the water on the table is yours or someone else’s.
It’s Okay if Royals Initiate Contact
As long as celebrities (or anyone) doesn’t put their hands on the royals first, then it’s okay. The royals must initiate contact first. If this is the case then a celebrity can reciprocate.
You Have to RSVP Twice for Invites to Buckingham Palace
For a celebrity, getting an invite to Buckingham Palace is a huge honor. If you get an invite, then you must accept it twice. Firstly you accept the email invite, and then you will be sent a formal invite in the post. This also has to be accepted.
Handshakes Are Okay
When a celebrity meets a royal member of the family, then they usually greet each other with a handshake. On the royal family’s website, it states, “there are no obligatory codes of behavior when meeting a member of the Royal family.” But it’s common for everyone to go in for a handshake.
You Can’t Turn Down a Royal Invitation
Unless there is a really good reason, nobody should turn down an invitation to a royal event. However, there has been times when a celebrity has turned down an invitation to Buckingham Palace and it’s made national news.
Don’t Speak Until You’re Spoken to
Difficult for some people, including celebrities, you must not speak to a royal unless you’re spoken to first. However, once you’ve had a handshake, they’re usually the first to say hello.
