10 Celebrities Who NEVER Do Interviews

By Krystal Brown

When put on the spot, these celebrities might answer a few questions, but when it comes to full blown interviews, they point blank refuse. They, of course, have their reasons, but we still think that giving an interview should be part of the deal of being famous.

Adam Sandler

There was a time when Adam Sandler didn’t mind giving interviews, but it seems that he’s now reluctant to give any interviews because everything he says and does seems to be harshly criticized. He told the independent, “I know what they’re writing about me. I could almost write the piece for them by now. But then remember that I didn’t get into movies to please the critics.” He later said he avoids interviews because he “used to be misquoted all the time”.

At the beginning, when they were young and first starting out in acting, they were okay with giving interviews. However, as they’ve become older, they have decided to be more private and retreat from the public eye. During an interview in 2011 with Style.com, they stated that they have anxiety about sharing any personal information with the world. They said, “We’ve spent our whole lives trying to not let people have that accessibility.”

Even though he has been known to do interviews in the past, Bill Murray has made the decision that he actually doesn’t like doing them, and it’s very rare you’ll see him give an in depth interview anymore. One of the reasons for the lack of interviews is that he doesn’t have his own PR person or publicist like many other celebrities.

J Cole

J Cole decided between 2014 and 2018 that he didn’t want to do press at all. He has given a number of written interviews where he revealed that he didn’t think the interview process was genuine and didn’t want to be a part of it. He confirmed this and said that he was “through trying to play whatever game is going on. If I’m in a conversation with somebody and it’s natural and it’s organic, I’m going to speak freely.”

Bradley Cooper

It is probably one of the hardest things for Bradley Cooper to do to avoid interviews, especially being one of the most in-demand actors of all time. However, he has said that when he does too many interviews, it takes him away from his movies, and the more his fans know about him, the less they can get into the character he’s playing. He said, “For me, maybe I’m old-fashioned, if I know so much about you and you’re playing a character in a movie, then that’s a lot of work I’m gonna have to do to forget who you are so that I can believe the character and therefore enjoy the movie.”

Joaquin Phoenix

Joaquin avoids doing interviews as much as possible, and stated, “I don’t mind one-on-one occasionally, or round-tables where there’s a discussion. It’s the TV stuff I struggle with where it’s just soundbites… and press conferences where you’re up on a stage and people are down there constantly taking pictures…”

Dave Chappelle

Dave has claimed that being famous has taken away some of the control he has over his own life. He has been known to walk out on press and interviews, and even his own professional gigs. He appeared on The Late Show in 2014 for an interview and he explained, “At the end of the day, it’s so – you don’t have that much control over it. You just try to conduct yourself as best as you can.”

Beyonce

We used to see Beyonce being interviewed all the time, whether it be alone or with Destiny’s Child, but she has since taken herself away from interviews all of the time. A writer via the Times has said, “She has been studying how effective her interviews have been so far. She may have decided that they do not contribute as dazzlingly to the portrait of Beyonce as the other stuff. It’s a perfectly reasonable decision.”

Frank Ocean

Believe it or not, Frank Ocean has only given fifteen interviews in his entire career, and when he was asked about his desire for anonymity, he stated that by appearing heavily in the visual press, he “could potentially be misrepresented.” He further explained that by mainly communicating through his social media, he has more control over what he says. “When you’re completely minimal with media, there’s a lot of pressure on whatever one thing you’re doing, the stakes are higher. Social media helps that, ‘cause you’re fully in control and can message that how you want.”

Kayne West

Even though we think of Kayne as being confident and wanting to be in the limelight all of the time, we don’t see him doing any standard interviews anymore. He has pulled away from this significantly due to a few of his comments receiving backlash from the press. Kayne does attend some interviews on occasions, but he isn’t the same interviewee he once was, and has in fact, has arguements with interviewers and sometimes sat and said nothing at all.
