Multilingual Marvels: Celebrities Flaunting Their Multilingual Skills

Several celebrities have mastered up to five languages through travel, movie roles, and religious missions, making their linguistic abilities truly impressive.

Even though Penelope was born and raised in Spain, she went to a French high school. She then became fluent in Spanish, English, Italian and French. She learnt Italian whilst preparing for her audition for the movie ‘Non Ti Muovere’.

Known as one of the most popular villains in motion history, Christopher Lee can speak some Russian, Greek and Swedish, whilst also being fluent in English, German, French, Spanish and Italian. Now that will blow your mind! 

Charlize Theron

When you see her name, you might think she’s French. However, Charlize Theron was born in South Africa and can still speak the native tongue, Afrikaans. She can also speak English and Dutch. 

Salma Hayek

Known for her incredible acting skills, and her nomination for an Academy Award for Best Actress, Salma Hayek can speak multiple languages, including Portuguese, English and Arabic

Sandra Bullock

Sandra is best known for her roles in Minions, Miss Congeniality, Gravity and Speed. However, she was born to a German mother, and can speak the language fluently. She has even performed in a Germa opera.

We all know that Shakira can speak English and Spanish, but did you know that she can also speak Portuguese, Italian, French, Arabic and Catalan. She has even introduced the languages of Russian, German, English, Chinese and French to her son, Milan.

Gwyneth is better known for her role in the Iron Man series, and you might not believe that she is actually a fluent Spanish speaker. She has also stated that she wants to bring her children up in a bilingual household.

Tom has done brilliantly in the Avengers movies, but he can also speak a surprising ten languages, including Italian, English, Spanish, French, Greek, Russian, Latin, German, Korean and Mandarin Chinese.

Rita was actually born in Yugoslavia, but grew up in England. Her native tongue is Albanian and she tries to speak this language as much as she can, in and outside of her home. 

Novak Djokovic

One of the best tennis players in the world, he is also skilled in knowing five different languages. His native tongue is Serbian, but he also knows English, German, Italian and French. Novak has also shown interest in learning more.

Actor and director Ben Affleck can also speak Spanish alongside his English. He has claimed that he isn’t fluent in the language but he knows enough to get by. He learnt it whilst spending a year in Mexico with his brother when they were teenagers.

The academy award nominated actor is best known for his role in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Viggo was raised in Argentina where he would speak both English and Spanish with his family. He has expressed that he feels more comfortable with the Spanish language, and is also fluent in Danish, French and Italian. He also understands Norwegian and Swedish.
